Established in 2006 as an associated institute of Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) and with the University as the largest and determining shareholder, Univations GmbH and its nine full time employees are responsible for all strategic entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer activities of the University. Univations staff is actively supported by a scientific board currently represented by Prof. Dr. Michael Bron (Vice-Rector of Martin-Luther-University), Prof. Dr. Claudia Becker (Institute for Statistics and Econometrics) and Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Reinhard Neubert (Director of the Institute for Pharmacy).

Building on approaches already present in entrepreneurship teaching, Univations creates courses, seminars and content on entrepreneurial skills, and these are then anchored in the regular teaching programmes across the departments in the form of mandatory subjects. A part-time Masters programme is currently planned. An example of Univations’ activities developing and commercializing research is the Scidea ideas competition organised by Univations which is open to students and researchers at all the universities and research institutes in Saxony-Anhalt. A main focus of the practical support for entrepreneurs is to develop a range of options relating to start-up and growth financing, particularly in the form of private and institutional venture capital.
